10 luxury adults-only hotels in Thailand: the best in 2026

Tripplo· Founder: Axel Hernborg

In short: We checked well over a hundred hotels in southern Thailand. Ten call themselves adults-only on their own websites and take no children: four on Koh Samui, three on Koh Lanta, two on Phuket and one on Koh Yao Noi in Phang Nga Bay. Where an age is given, it is 16 or 18.

The luxury adults-only hotels in this guide are all on Thailand's southern islands.

The review analysis covers a sample of 652 reviews from 10 of the 10 hotels listed. Mentions are counted after automated classification of texts that may be shortened. Latest analysis in this selection: October 2026. How we count mentions.

How we chose and ordered the hotels

We checked well over a hundred hotels and resorts in southern Thailand: on Koh Samui, Phuket, Koh Lanta and Koh Yao Noi, in Khao Lak, on the Krabi coast and on Phi Phi. Ten made the list, four-star boutique hotels as well as five-star resorts, and they are ordered by guest score. The order therefore tells you how satisfied guests have been, not which island suits you best, so read the island guide below before you choose.

Each hotel had to state on its own website that it is adults-only. We used booking sites only to find the minimum age where the hotel's own pages did not give one. To qualify, a hotel had to accept guests from 16 at the youngest or have an explicit adults-only policy for the whole hotel. Hotels that only set an age limit of 12, 13 or 14, and adults-only zones inside family hotels, do not count.

Where to stay: Koh Samui, Koh Lanta, Phuket or Koh Yao Noi?

Koh Samui in the Gulf of Thailand has four of the hotels. Explorar sits right on Mae Nam Beach on the north coast, and Moorea is a two-minute walk from Ban Tai Beach on the same stretch. Mantra Samui stands on the hillside above Bophut Bay, a short drive from the sand, while Buri Rasa is on the beachfront in Chaweng on the east coast, a lively strip of restaurants and bars. The island has its own airport.

Koh Lanta in the Andaman Sea has three. It is quieter and less built-up than Samui or Phuket, and you reach it by road and car ferry from Krabi. Layana is on Long Beach (Phra Ae) on the west coast, Lanta Palace on Klong Toab Beach further south, and The Houben on the hilltop above Kantiang Bay in the south of the island. All three look west, towards the sunset.

Phuket has two, both on the west coast: The Shore at Katathani on Kata Noi in the south-west, and Twinpalms Tented Camp on Bang Tao Beach further north, about 20 km from Phuket International Airport.

Koh Yao Noi lies in Phang Nga Bay, between Phuket and Krabi, and is home to TreeHouse Villas. It is the most secluded setting in this guide, reached by speedboat from Phuket or the Krabi coast.

The weather is worth a thought, however. The Andaman coast (Phuket, Koh Lanta, Koh Yao Noi) and the Gulf coast (Koh Samui) have their rainy seasons at different times of year: the Andaman side is wettest in the middle of the year, Samui towards the end of it. Match the island to your travel dates.

Hotels we reviewed but left out

  • The Sarojin in Khao Lak — a resort that courts romantics and honeymooners, but it also welcomes families with children from 10.
  • SAii Koh Samui Villas in Choeng Mon, The SIS Kata on Phuket and Bangsak Village in Khao Lak — aimed at couples, but they accept children from 12.
  • Twin Lotus Resort and Spa on Koh Lanta — adults-only from November to April only; children are welcome the rest of the year.
  • Samaraya Wellness Resort on Koh Samui and The Anda Mani in Khao Lak — listed as adults-only on booking sites, but their own websites say nothing of the kind, and The Anda Mani sells a family suite.
  • Marasca Samui — an adults-only pool next to a children's pool in a family-friendly hotel.
  • The Pavilions Phuket — its own site no longer describes it as adults-only, and it now welcomes children of any age.
  • Kamalaya Koh Samui — a calm wellness retreat, but children are allowed in its villa categories.
  • Khao Lak and the Krabi mainland — we found adults-only hotels in both, but none in the luxury segment above our guest-score floor; the large luxury resorts there welcome families.

A pattern worth knowing: in Thailand, many hotels carry an adults-only label on booking sites without saying so on their own websites, and several well-known couples' resorts set a lower age limit. We only list hotels that are for adults throughout and say so themselves.

Frequently Asked Questions

TreeHouse Villas, The Shore at Katathani and Twinpalms Tented Camp call themselves adults-only without giving an age, and none of the three accepts children according to Booking.

Koh Samui has four of the hotels, on the beaches and hills of the north coast and in lively Chaweng, and it has its own airport. Koh Lanta has three and is the quieter choice, with west-facing beaches and a ferry crossing from Krabi. Phuket has two on its west coast, within reach of Phuket International Airport, and Koh Yao Noi in Phang Nga Bay is the most secluded. The Andaman islands and Samui on the Gulf have their rainy seasons at different times, so let your travel dates help decide.

Every villa at TreeHouse Villas has a private plunge pool, and every villa at The Shore at Katathani has its own pool. Explorar has villas with a pool or spa pool, including beach pool villas, and some of the tented suites at Twinpalms Tented Camp have a private pool. At the other hotels, the shared pool is the centre of the stay.

TreeHouse Villas can arrange a pick-up from Phuket or Krabi airport and a speedboat from Yacht Haven Marina on Phuket or Tha Len Pier near Krabi, both booked in advance, the boat at extra cost. Koh Lanta is reached from Krabi International Airport by road and car ferry; Layana offers an airport shuttle.
