In short: Nana Princess Suites Villas & Spa tops this ranking of 12 luxury beachfront hotels in Crete, the highest combined score with five of six theme criteria confirmed, including direct sandy beach access and sea-view suites. The list spans private bays near Elounda and Agios Nikolaos to family-friendly resorts near Heraklion and Georgioupolis, each checked against guest reviews for genuine beachfront credentials.
Crete's coastline runs from the sheltered bays around Elounda and Agios Nikolaos to the wide sandy stretches near Hersonissos, Gouves and Georgioupolis, and the island has no shortage of five-star names built right on the sand. What separates a genuine beachfront stay from a hotel that merely mentions the sea is whether the beach, the sea access and the views actually hold up once you check the details.
We verified every hotel on this list against its own description and its guest reviews for six criteria that define the theme: on a sandy beach, own sea access, distance to the beach, sunbeds or beach club, calm shallow water and sea-view rooms. An unconfirmed criterion is never counted as a yes, which is why some otherwise five-star hotels here score lower on how much of the theme we could actually verify.
How we ranked
This is the beachfront theme's own ranking, not Crete's general luxury order. We combine three things: the guest verdict on Booking and Google, weighted by how many reviews stand behind it — a score built on a few dozen reviews is pulled toward the island's average, one from thousands stands on its own — counting for 55 percent; confirmed criteria for this theme (on a sandy beach, own sea access, distance to the beach, sunbeds or beach club, calm shallow water, sea-view rooms), worth 30 percent, where anything we couldn't verify is left out rather than guessed at; and the hotel's star class, worth 15 percent. A four-star resort with every criterion confirmed can therefore outrank a five-star with gaps in what's known.
Where in Crete are the best beachfront hotels?
Around Elounda (Domes of Elounda, Elounda Mare Relais & Châteaux, Elounda Peninsula Luxury Resort) the coastline is sheltered and upmarket, with private beaches shared between a handful of five-star resorts on Mirabello Bay. Nearby Agios Nikolaos (Minos Beach Art Hotel, Daios Cove) mixes walkable town access with quieter private coves cut into the cliffs.
East along the coast, Hersonissos (Nana Princess Suites Villas & Spa, Abaton Island Resort & Spa) and Gouves (Amirandes) offer wide sandy beaches close to Heraklion, while Kokkini Khani (Arina Beach Resort) sits nearest the airport. Further west, Analipsi (Stella Blue Seaside Resort), Georgioupolis (Mythos Palace Resort & Spa) and Plaka (Phāea Blue) offer quieter, more spread-out alternatives to the busier resort strips.

1Crete, Greece
Nana Princess Suites Villas & Spa tops our beachfront ranking in Crete, with a 9,9 Booking score from 359 reviews and five of six theme criteria confirmed, including a sandy beach right at the door and sea-view suites.
Most suites come with a private pool near Hersonissos, and three separate restaurants cover the dining. The trade-off is a setting well apart from central Hersonissos nightlife, so a car or taxi is useful in the evenings.
Why this rank: Nana Princess leads with a 9,9 Booking score from 359 reviews and five of six criteria confirmed — direct sandy beach, sunbeds and sea-view rooms among them — the highest combined score in this ranking, though calm shallow water is not confirmed here.
2Crete, Greece
Domes of Elounda, Autograph Collection sits above UNESCO-protected Spinalonga, with a 4,8 Google rating built on more than a thousand reviews and a private sandy beach shared with five pools.
Suites often include spa baths or plunge pools, and four restaurants cover most tastes. Rates sit at the top of the Elounda enclave, and a car helps for anything beyond the resort gates.
Why this rank: Domes of Elounda has a strong 4,8 Google rating from 1 237 reviews, but its combined guest verdict sits below Nana Princess's near-perfect score, and calm shallow water remains unconfirmed here too, keeping it in second place.
3Crete, Greece
Minos Beach Art Hotel confirms all six of the theme's criteria, from own sea access to calm shallow water, on a private stretch of Mirabello Bay (9,3).
Villas here come with private pools and there's a curated art collection throughout the grounds, a short walk from Agios Nikolaos. The beach area itself can feel compact once the villas fill up.
Why this rank: Minos Beach Art Hotel confirms all six criteria, including own sea access and calm shallow water — more than Domes of Elounda — but a lower combined guest verdict from its 403 Booking reviews at 9,3 keeps it just behind in third.
4Crete, Greece
Stella Blue Seaside Resort is an adults-only base on Analipsis beach, rated 9,2 on Booking, with direct beach access and sea-view balconies in every room.
The tranquil, ages-12-and-up setting suits couples wanting quiet rather than a lively resort, though the age restriction rules out young families, and sunbeds can be contested in high season.
Why this rank: Stella Blue Seaside Resort matches Minos Beach's guest verdict, but only 65 percent of the theme's criteria are confirmed — sunbeds, private sea access and calm shallow water are unknown here — against Minos's full six, placing it fourth.
5Crete, Greece
Daios Cove climbs a private bay near Agios Nikolaos in an amphitheatre-style layout, with a private sandy beach at its base and 165 sea-water pools spread across rooms and villas (8,9).
A 2 500 m² spa is among the largest on the island. The steep site relies on a funicular and lifts, and it's a distance from Agios Nikolaos nightlife.
Why this rank: Daios Cove confirms a sandy beach, sunbeds and sea-view rooms, matching much of Stella Blue's confirmed set, but a lower combined guest verdict — 8,9 Booking from 352 reviews — places it fifth.
6Crete, Greece
Food & restaurants: 56 of 65 mentions positive · Pools, beach & aquapark: 43 of 45 mentions positive
Arina Beach Resort confirms every one of the theme's six criteria, from own sea access to calm shallow water, with bungalows sitting right on the beach near Heraklion airport (8,9).
Sea views come as standard from most bungalows, and dining spans several bars and restaurants. The trade-off is occasional noise from low-flying aircraft on the approach to Heraklion.
Why this rank: Arina Beach Resort confirms all six criteria — including own sea access and calm shallow water, both unconfirmed for Daios Cove — but its 8,9 Booking score from 567 reviews and four-star class result in a lower combined score, placing it sixth.
7Crete, Greece
Elounda Mare Relais & Châteaux pairs bougainvillea-lined bungalows, several with private pools, with a Blue Flag private beach and free loungers on Elounda's main street (9,2).
Guests can use the Six Senses Spa at a sister property nearby, and water sports are available on site. The spa sits 500 metres off-site, and the resort setting can feel secluded.
Why this rank: Elounda Mare Relais & Châteaux edges close with a 9,2 Booking score from 177 reviews, yet only 78 percent of the theme's criteria are confirmed, against Arina's complete six — own sea access and calm shallow water remain unconfirmed here — placing it seventh.
8Crete, Greece
Mythos Palace Resort & Spa sits on a private sandy beach in Georgioupolis, with landscaped gardens and private outdoor space attached to every room (9,1).
Facilities lean towards travelling families, with calm shallow water confirmed for younger swimmers. The location is secluded from major towns, and some outdoor amenities are seasonal.
Why this rank: Mythos Palace Resort & Spa's guest verdict edges past Elounda Mare's, at 9,1 Booking from 103 reviews, but its four-star class and unconfirmed sea-view rooms keep it just behind, in eighth.
9Crete, Greece
Amirandes, A Resort to Live offers a private beach with lagoon views near Gouves, an Olympic-sized seawater pool and ten separate restaurants and bars (9,0).
Some rooms come with their own pool, and there's a full spa with an indoor pool and sauna. The resort's scale means plenty of walking between the various restaurants and beach areas.
Why this rank: Amirandes confirms calm shallow water and sea-view rooms alongside its sandy beach, a fuller set than Mythos Palace, and carries five-star class, but a lower guest verdict — 9,0 Booking from 369 reviews — keeps it ninth.
10Crete, Greece
Elounda Peninsula Luxury Resort looks over Mirabello Bay from its own private beach, with many rooms holding a private pool and Six Senses Spa treatments on site (9,1).
Its guest score rests on a smaller review base than some rivals here, which pulls the combined verdict toward the island average. Elounda itself is a remote base, and some rooms sit a walk from the main facilities.
Why this rank: Elounda Peninsula Luxury Resort matches Amirandes on confirmed criteria and five-star class, but its 9,1 Booking score rests on only 71 reviews against Amirandes's 369, pulling its combined guest verdict toward the island average and placing it tenth.
11Crete, Greece
Abaton Island Resort & Spa offers private pools or hot tubs in many rooms, direct access to a private beach and Cretan-inspired dining across five venues in Hersonissos (9,0).
An airport shuttle and free parking are included. The resort's scale means the beachfront areas can get busy, and free Wi-Fi may not reach every corner.
Why this rank: Abaton Island Resort & Spa's guest verdict is fractionally higher than Elounda Peninsula's, from 713 Booking reviews, but only 75 percent of the theme's criteria are confirmed — private sea access and calm shallow water are unknown — against Elounda Peninsula's fuller set, placing it eleventh.
12Crete, Greece
Phāea Blue, Small Luxury Hotels of the World, is a boutique beachfront stay in Plaka with own sea access confirmed and private pools in most rooms (9,4).
A free airport shuttle and two dining concepts round out the offer. Direct sandy beach access isn't confirmed in our data, and the small room count means limited space at peak times.
Why this rank: Phāea Blue's 9,4 Booking score from 121 reviews is the highest guest verdict among the last few entries, but only half the theme's criteria are confirmed — a direct sandy beach is not confirmed, though own sea access is — placing it twelfth.
