Tripplo's verdict, based on guest reviews
Tripplo’s analysis · Updated 1 October 2026 · How we review hotels
Amatara Welleisure Resort is a place to slow down. Its suites, pavilions and pool villas wrap around the Cape Panwa headland, so the Andaman Sea is in view almost everywhere, and the 55-metre infinity pool seems to spill straight into it. Guests return again and again to the staff, whom they describe as warm and attentive, and to the food, from breakfast to dinner at the Scene restaurant. Wellness programmes, spa treatments and morning activities give the days a gentle rhythm. However, the setting that delivers the views also brings compromises. The beach depends heavily on the tide, so most swimming takes place in the pools. Paths across the headland are steep in places, although buggies run often. The resort is calm to the point of feeling empty for some, and the gym is modest for a wellness address. Couples and anyone in search of rest will find it restorative; travellers who want buzz in the evening should look elsewhere.
Guests score it 9.1 out of 10 — the average across the 12 hotels we list on Phuket is 9.1.
What Guests Loved
- Guests describe waking up to the sea as the high point: from the rooms, the gardens and the infinity pool the view opens over the bay and the Andaman Sea, and the Bay View suites are singled out for it.
- The team is praised in almost every review. Guests call the staff kind, responsive and genuinely warm, some mention staff by name, and one returning guest counts the people among the reasons for coming back.
Things to Consider
- The resort is beachfront, but guests note that the beach almost disappears at high tide and that at low tide the water is hard to reach, so swimming happens mostly in the pools. One guest also felt the beach could be better kept.
- Villas are spread over a sloping headland and some paths are steep. Buggies run frequently and most guests found it easy to get around, but walking from villa to restaurant can be tiring.
Should you book it?
Amatara Welleisure Resort is worth booking for couples who want a pool villa with a sea view and plenty of privacy — but pick somewhere else if you want a lively bar scene or nightlife on the doorstep.
