The Omnia
Zermatt, Switzerland
Best overallThe Omnia suits travellers who want to be in the middle of Zermatt without hearing it… The hotel sits on a rock 45 metres above the village roofs, and the approach, through a tunnel to a lift that rises into the lobby, is part of the experience. Guests describe the design as elegant and modern down to the details, and they talk warmly about the staff, from the welcome at the station to the service at breakfast, which several call outstanding. The spa, with an indoor pool, sauna and hot tub, is the natural place to end a day in the mountains. The compromises are small but worth knowing. Some rooms are on the compact side, and not every room is equally well placed within the building, so it is worth stating your preferences when you book. One guest also missed a cold plunge in the spa. Couples who value design, quiet and a spa close to the village centre will feel at home here.
Why this position
Among the three highest guest scores of the 15 hotels we rank here — 9.6 from 228 reviews. Leads the ranking: a higher guest score than #2 (9.6 to 9.3).

CERVO Mountain Resort
Zermatt, Switzerland
DesignCERVO Mountain Resort is built around the mountain day… It sits beside the slopes at the Sunnegga valley station, and a lift brings you from there straight to reception, so skiers can head out onto the snow and come back the same way; guests mention the ski-in/ski-out access again and again. The rooms are spacious and thoughtfully designed, some with a view of the Matterhorn, and the Ātman Mountain Spa adds a sauna, a steam bath and a fireplace lounge for the evening. Staff are described as friendly and proactive, breakfast as excellent, and live music or a DJ keeps the atmosphere lively. A few practical points come up in reviews. The rooms lack proper air conditioning, and some guests find the lighting rather dim. The gym is on the small side, so keen gym-goers should not expect a large training room. Skiers and couples who want a sociable mountain resort with a spa will find it a very convenient base.
Why this position
Sits behind #1 on both the score (9.3 to 9.6) and the sample it rests on (208 to 228 reviews).

Welschen Hotel
Zermatt, Switzerland
Affordable luxuryWelschen Hotel is a new build with a classic postcard view… It opened in March 2025 on a south-facing slope, and from most of the hotel, including many of the balconies and the indoor pool, the Matterhorn fills the frame. Guests describe a modern, spotless house with a warm alpine feel, and they praise the professional, friendly staff almost without exception. Breakfast, which is included, comes with a view and plenty of choice, and the restaurant and the wellness area earn warm words too. The location is a trade-off between calm and convenience. The Sunnegga Express is only two minutes away, which suits skiers and hikers, but the station and the village centre are about seven minutes on foot. Having opened in 2025, the hotel also has a short track record, and one guest wished for better toiletries. For a quiet stay with the Matterhorn in view, it is an easy choice.
Why this position
Highest guest score of the 15 hotels we rank here — 9.8 from 540 reviews. A lower star class than #2, but guests rate it higher (9.8 to 9.3).

Swiss Alpine Hotel Allalin
Zermatt, Switzerland
Spa & wellnessSwiss Alpine Hotel Allalin is a hotel where the people make the stay… Guests speak about the staff in unusually warm terms: helpful at reception, generous with small favours and ready to pack a meal for an early departure. The building has plenty of character, with carved wood throughout and rooms furnished individually, and the south-facing balconies look straight at the Matterhorn. Breakfast, served in a room with a winter garden, is a highlight for many, and the central location puts a cable car station and the shops within easy reach. There are a few things to check before booking. Not every room faces the Matterhorn; the others look out over the village towards the Mischabel range, so book the view if it matters to you. Some bathtubs are high and narrow, which makes showering awkward, and the train station is about ten minutes on foot. Couples who value service and a central base will be well looked after.
Why this position
Among the three highest guest scores of the 15 hotels we rank here — 9.6 from 523 reviews. Sits behind #3 on both the score (9.6 to 9.8) and the sample it rests on (523 to 540 reviews).

SCHLOSS Zermatt
Zermatt, Switzerland
SCHLOSS Zermatt makes arriving in Zermatt easy: it stands on Bahnhofplatz, a few steps from the train station, yet guests describe the location as quiet… The style is clean and contemporary, the rooms are tastefully furnished and often spacious, and one guest who stayed in the hotel's cottage said it felt like home. The staff earn steady praise for remembering names, sharing local knowledge and helping with restaurant reservations. Breakfast is another strength, with vegetarian and vegan options, juice shots and omelettes made to order, while the spa, the gym and the yoga classes give active guests plenty to do. The criticisms are minor. Some rooms are on the dark side, and not every window has a scenic outlook; one guest looked out over the neighbours' bins. The look is modern rather than traditional chalet. Active couples and travellers who want to stay close to the station will find it a comfortable, well-run base.
Why this position
The largest body of guest feedback on this page: 1,202 reviews, averaging 9.5. Rests on more guest reviews than #4 (1,202 to 523), at a slightly lower score (9.5 to 9.6).

Matthiol Boutique Hotel
Zermatt, Switzerland
Peace and quietMatthiol Boutique Hotel is for travellers who would rather sleep away from the bustle of the centre… The chalet-style hotel stands in peaceful surroundings on the edge of Zermatt and was fully renovated in summer 2021. Guests keep mentioning the quiet, the views of the Matterhorn from their balcony and the friendly team, and several single out the spa rooms, which come with their own sauna. The shared wellness area, with a herbal sauna, a Finnish sauna and a steam bath, is free to use, as is the fitness room, and the hotel collects guests from the station for free. The calm comes with some distance. The centre is a 10 to 15 minute walk, downhill on the way there, and one guest found the choice at lunch limited. There is no swimming pool either. If you want peace after a day in the mountains and do not mind the walk, this is an easy hotel to settle into.
Why this position
The same guest score as #5 (9.5), on a smaller body of reviews (527 to 1,202).

Matterhorn FOCUS Design Hotel
Zermatt, Switzerland
Matterhorn FOCUS Design Hotel is for travellers who care about how a place looks and what it looks out on… Every room and suite was designed by the Swiss artist Heinz Julen, guests keep remarking on the attention to detail, and most rooms, like the ground-floor terrace, face the Matterhorn directly. The Matterhorn Express gondola is right next door, the spa and afternoon snack round off a day outdoors, and the staff are described as warm, kind and quick to help mark an anniversary. A few things are worth planning around. The hotel serves no lunch or dinner, so evenings mean heading into the village, which some guests find a fair walk even though others call it close. A pick-up and drop-off service makes arrival easier. One or two guests mention squeaky beds and very soft pillows. Couples and skiers who enjoy eating out will feel well looked after here.
Why this position
Level with #6 on the guest score (9.5) and on the reviews behind it.

Nomad by CERVO Mountain Resort
Zermatt, Switzerland
Nomad by CERVO Mountain Resort suits travellers who want Zermatt close by but plenty to do back at the hotel… It sits on Riedweg, on the hillside above the centre, and guests describe the nearby lift down to the village as an easy link. There are three restaurants, which some guests happily worked their way through, a spa with sauna, steam room and hammam, and an outdoor pool that stays open all year. The staff come up again and again as sincere and helpful, and couples, honeymooners among them, find the place deeply relaxing. The drawbacks are small but worth knowing. A Matterhorn view is not guaranteed: one guest who asked for it found the outlook blocked by building work. Another noticed spa staff tidying up well before closing time. If the mountain view matters most, raise it when you book; otherwise this is a calm, well-run base with a lot under one roof.
Why this position
Level with #7 on the guest score (9.5) and on the reviews behind it.

Europe Hotel & Spa
Zermatt, Switzerland
Europe Hotel & Spa is the choice for travellers who want the Matterhorn in view from their room… Most rooms have a balcony facing the mountain, and guests who booked a Matterhorn-view room describe it as the high point of their stay. The hotel lies in a quieter part of Zermatt yet within 700 metres of the train station and the lifts to Furi and Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, and guests appreciate being collected from the station. The individually furnished rooms, the attention to detail in the design, the friendly staff and the breakfast all draw warm praise. There are a few things to keep in mind. Some rooms have an open-plan bathroom, which suits couples better than friends sharing. One guest found towels forgotten by housekeeping, and another mentioned building work behind the hotel, though it mattered little on days spent out exploring. For a quiet, view-focused stay close to the lifts, it is a strong choice.
Why this position
Level with #8 on the guest score (9.5) and on the reviews behind it.

Chesa Valese
Zermatt, Switzerland
Chesa Valese is a good fit for travellers who want a traditional chalet atmosphere without being far from the action… Built in Valais style, it stands in the quiet Steinmatte area, a 3-minute walk from the centre and 5 minutes from the railway and cable car stations, and guests mention the free shuttle from the station. What they praise most is the breakfast, followed by the afternoon pastries, the many small extras in the rooms and an owner and staff who notice the details. There is a lounge with a fireplace, a bar, a sauna and a steam bath, and in winter a ski room with a boot dryer. The drawbacks are modest. There is no pool, so wellness means the sauna and steam bath. One guest found the room too warm even with the heating off, though the hotel brought a fan. Ask for a Matterhorn-view room if the mountain matters. For a warm, well-kept base close to everything, it is easy to recommend.
Why this position
Rests on more guest reviews than #9 (684 to 367), at a slightly lower score (9.4 to 9.5).

The SIXTEEN 20
Zermatt, Switzerland
The SIXTEEN 20 suits travellers who want a modern room and an easy start to the day on the mountain… It stands on Zen Steckenstraße, close to the gondola up to Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, and guests describe the rooms as spacious, modern and cosy, with balconies and, from some of them, a fine view of the Matterhorn. The decor is called charming and the staff kind and helpful; one guest had the room decorated for a surprise proposal. Breakfast is praised for its variety, with vegetarian and gluten-free choices, and the spa adds a sauna, a steam room and a hot tub on the terrace. Guests have little to criticise, so the limits are practical ones. There is no swimming pool, the train station is a walk away rather than on the doorstep, and only some rooms look out on the Matterhorn, so ask for one if the view matters. For a stylish, comfortable base near the glacier lift, it is an easy choice.
Why this position
The same guest score as #10 (9.4), on a smaller body of reviews (443 to 684).

Hotel Berghof
Zermatt, Switzerland
Hotel Berghof suits guests who want the Matterhorn in view and the mountain on the doorstep… It sits in Winkelmatten, right beside the cable car that climbs towards Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, and many of its traditionally furnished rooms open onto balconies or patios facing the peak. Guests return again and again to the spa, with its waterfall pool, hot tub and crystal hammam, and they describe the rooms as spacious, spotless and fitted with remarkably comfortable beds. Staff are praised as friendly and professional, and breakfast earns warm words too. The trade-off is the location. The hotel lies a little outside the main village and the path between the two is steep, which some guests find a strenuous walk after dinner; a shuttle from the station helps on arrival. Rooms have no coffee maker or fridge, and the bar can feel very quiet in the evening. Skiers and spa lovers will feel at home, while anyone with limited mobility should think twice.
Why this position
The same guest score as #11 (9.4), on a smaller body of reviews (335 to 443).

Tradition Julen Hotel
Zermatt, Switzerland
Tradition Julen Hotel suits guests who want a hotel that feels rooted in the Alps… Its rooms pair traditional Alpine interiors with modern comforts, every one has a balcony, and some look out to the Matterhorn. Guests praise the attention to detail, the spotless rooms and a breakfast with plenty of choice, while the three-storey spa, with its indoor pool, steam baths and sauna, gives you somewhere to unwind after a day in the mountains. In the evening you can choose between a traditional tavern and a more elegant restaurant. The cable cars are a 10–15-minute walk away, so skiers should allow for a daily stroll with their gear. Service is where opinions differ: most guests call the staff wonderful and attentive, but a few found drinks and dinner bookings slow at busy times. One or two also find the pool water a little cool. For couples after character and comfort, it remains a dependable choice.
Why this position
Level with #12 on the guest score (9.4) and on the reviews behind it.

Hotel Schönegg
Zermatt, Switzerland
Hotel Schönegg is for guests who would rather look down on Zermatt than stay in the thick of it… The hotel sits on the hillside at Wiesti, connected to the village centre by a mountain lift, and its sun terrace and many of its balconies look straight at the Matterhorn. For many guests the restaurant is the highlight, praised for both its cooking and its view, and breakfast includes local and home-made produce. Staff are described as outstanding, rooms as clean and cosy, and the Junior Suite in the Petite Chalet as large and very comfortable. A few small things are worth knowing. Not every balcony has a clear view: in at least one room the spa building gets in the way. Skiers will find the boot room and the ski room on different levels, and the hillside setting makes the lift your daily link to the village. Couples who plan to dine in and savour the view will find little to fault.
Why this position
The same guest score as #13 (9.4), on a smaller body of reviews (142 to 337).

Hotel Daniela
Zermatt, Switzerland
Hotel Daniela is for travellers who want a calm, well-kept base rather than a resort… It lies in a quiet part of Zermatt, about ten minutes on foot from both the train station and the cable cars, and its rooms, renovated in 2017, come with a minibar, a safe and bathrobes. Guests describe them as cosy and spotless, and some enjoy a view of the Matterhorn from the balcony. Breakfast is the highlight in review after review: a rich buffet with plenty of variety, served by staff who seem genuinely eager to help. The points to plan for are practical ones. Skiers face a short walk to the lifts each morning, and breakfast is not included in every rate, so check what you are booking. Groups reserving more than three rooms must pay within 48 hours, with no refund. Couples and small families who want friendly service and a quiet night's sleep will be well served here.
Why this position
Rests on more guest reviews than #14 (1,131 to 142), at a slightly lower score (9.3 to 9.4).
