Palazzo Feroci – Residenza d'epoca

4-Star Hotel
Palazzo Feroci is a restored residenza d'epoca in the historic centre of Pisa, about 50 metres from Piazza dei Cavalieri. The building began as two tower houses used by officials of the Order of the Knights of St Stephen, founded in Pisa by Cosimo I de' Medici in the 16th century. After a restoration that began in 2021, it now holds ten individually styled rooms and suites, where 19th-century frescoes, coffered ceilings and terracotta floors sit alongside modern bathrooms. Categories run from the Superior Faggiola and the Deluxe Vaio under a large skylight to the Suite Cavalieri, with a balcony over a private patio, and the Roof Top Loft Altana, which looks out over the rooftops; some units have a kitchenette or a separate sitting room. Rooms have air conditioning, a Lavazza coffee machine, a kettle, a free soft-drink minibar and Lorenzo Villoresi toiletries. Breakfast is served at the Cavalieri bar on the ground floor, which has a garden and also serves lunch and aperitivo. Check-in is self-service from 3 pm, the railway station is about 1.5 km away and Pisa airport about 4 km.

Tripplo's verdict, based on guest reviews

Tripplo’s analysis · Updated 9 October 2026 · How we review hotels

Palazzo Feroci suits travellers who would rather stay in a piece of Pisa's history than in a standard hotel. The palazzo grew out of two tower houses used by the Knights of St Stephen, passed to the Feroci family in 1876 and reopened after a restoration that kept its frescoes, coffered ceilings and terracotta floors. Guests speak most warmly about the staff, the central yet calm street near Piazza dei Cavalieri and rooms that are larger than expected, many with their own sitting room. Breakfast is served in the café and garden downstairs, and the free minibar and small extras add to the sense of being looked after. The trade-offs come from its size and set-up. Check-in is self-service, the front desk is staffed only during the day and the bar closes in the early evening, so this is not the place for a late drink downstairs. The breakfast menu is short and does not change, and some rooms lack practical details such as towel hooks or a full-length mirror. Couples and small families who want character, space and the Leaning Tower on foot will be well placed; anyone who wants full hotel service around the clock should look elsewhere.

A restored 16th-century palazzo near Piazza dei Cavalieri, with ten frescoed rooms and suites and breakfast in the garden café downstairs. It suits couples and travellers who want character and space within walking distance of the Leaning Tower, less so anyone who expects a staffed lobby and a bar that stays open late.

Guests score it 9.5 out of 10 — the average across the 4 hotels we list in Pisa is 9.3.

  • The staff are the most frequently praised part of a stay. Guests describe the reception and café teams as friendly and professional, mention help with luggage, taxis, parking permits and restaurant tips, and several name individual staff members. Clear communication before arrival and over WhatsApp also gets repeated credit.
  • Guests keep saying they could walk everywhere: the Leaning Tower is a few minutes away on foot, with Borgo Stretto and the Arno close by. Several also note that the street is calmer than the area around the tower, with good places to eat right on the doorstep.
