Tripplo's verdict, based on guest reviews
By Axel Hernborg · Updated 16 August 2026 · How we review hotels
This heritage property is best for history lovers who value proximity to Malmö Central Station. Backed by a high booking score of 9.7 from 4116 reviews and a Google rating of 4.5 based on 1517 reviews, the hotel features historic 14th-century architectural elements. Guests can enjoy breakfast served in medieval vaulted cellars and dine at the on-site Vietnamese fusion restaurant. However, travellers should note that the historic nature of the building means rooms come with varied sizes and layouts, and there is limited parking in the city centre.
Guests score it 9.7 out of 10 — the average across the 4 hotels we list in Malmö is 9.5.
What Guests Loved
- The building dates back to the 1300s and once housed Swedish royalty, with many rooms retaining original details such as heavy, exposed wooden ceiling beams that emphasize its heritage.
- Located just 150 meters from Malmö Central Station, the hotel allows guests to reach international train connections and the historic Stortorget Square within a few minutes' walk.
Things to Consider
- Due to the constraints of the 14th-century structure, certain rooms are more compact than modern standards. Guests requiring extra space should consider booking superior or deluxe room categories.
- While the hotel offers private parking, spaces are restricted and must be pre-booked. The central location also means navigating narrow streets that can be challenging during peak hours.

Reviews from Google“Appreciated location for train & walking to historic sites, mini frig & kettle, comfortable bed, helpful staff, small room fine for 1 for brief stay, good breakfast, BBC channel. Room needs a deep cleaning, get rid of unwashed decorative pillows on top of clean pillows, had to remove all the items they're selling to use mini frig, only hand held shower attachment worked, shower door is not flush to floor so much water ends up on bathroom floor, phone should've been replaced when it didn't ring, sink too small to wash things, closet & bathroom area had a sewer gas smell, no decaffeinated coffees & teas offered, flight of stairs to reception could be difficult with heavy luggage or mobility challenges.”
“A great hotel to stay in Malmö. The building is steeped in history, spanning centuries. The library is amazing. Good location and friendly receptionists. Good breakfast.”
“Recommended by a friend who lives in Malmo. This is a charming hotel in a very old building with a lot of history. The staff is friendly, efficient, helpful and kind. Our room was large and had places to put our luggage and a desk to sit at. It's an old building so the room was "a bit rough around the edges," but it was immaculate. The breakfast in the basement was excellent.”
“I got a nice double room for a great price, and the service and greeting were first class. The receptionist was very talkative, which delayed my check-in a bit, but it was actually really nice to see her taking the time to treat every guest so well. They even let me pack a breakfast to go, which was great! :-D I just wish I’d had more time to read all the interesting info on the walls. P.S. The hotel has a very charming, old-school atmosphere. If you fancy modern halls, saunas, gyms, and wide-open spaces, this place is not for you—but for everyone else, it’s full of character”
“The guy at the reception was a bit of a moodkill compared to the hotel’s charming and mysterious vibe. He did not welcome us or smile or smalltalk or anything positive. Just processed the check-in. The room was spacious and comfortable but was not as advertised and had almost no natural light from a very small roof window. It was okay for us because we were only staying one night. Would not like it for multiple days. The hotel’s library and breakfast area were super cosy. Unfortunately, the plant-based options in the breakfast were very limited, but the Asian-looking lady in the kitchen provided amazing service and prepared for us vegan cheese, ham and muffins. Lifted the whole stay. Special thanks to her. 🙏”
