La Vela Khao Lak is a good fit for travellers who want a contemporary resort on the beach without being cut off from the rest of Khao Lak. It sits on Bang Niang Beach, close enough to walk to shops, markets and restaurants yet far enough away to stay quiet at night. Guests speak most warmly about the large rooms with their balconies and bathtubs, the pool-access and swim-up rooms, the attentive staff and a breakfast with plenty of choice, and families find it easy to stay here with small children. The trade-offs are modest but real. In-room Wi-Fi is the weak point, and parts of the resort are starting to show their age.
