Hotel Pigalle is ideal for travellers seeking a central city base with historic European flair. Backed by a 9.5 Booking.com score from 2942 reviews and a 4.4 Google rating from 2087 reviews, this property stands out with its Belle Époque-inspired interior design and a top-floor restaurant featuring a rooftop terrace. A curated selection of local breakfast items is served daily near Gothenburg Central Station. However, guests should note that ambient noise from the nearby shopping district is common, and some specific rooms suffer from limited natural light.
Guests score it 9.5 out of 10 — the average across the 4 hotels we list in Gothenburg is 9.4.
What Guests Loved
- The rooms draw inspiration from early 20th-century Paris, featuring velvet textures, patterned wallpapers, and hand-selected furniture. This creates an atmosphere that feels distinct from the minimalist aesthetic common in many other Scandinavian hospitality offerings.
- Restaurant Atelier and the accompanying terrace provide elevated dining experiences with views over the city rooftops. The space is effectively utilized for seasonal Swedish cuisine and sophisticated evening cocktails in a garden-like setting.
Things to Consider
- Its proximity to high-traffic retail areas and the central station can result in ambient city sounds during peak hours. Guests sensitive to noise may consider requesting rooms on higher floors or those facing the inner courtyard.
- Due to the historical layout of the building, a few guest rooms feature smaller windows or overlook narrow side streets. While these spaces maintain the hotel's rich decor, they receive less direct sunlight during the winter months.

Reviews from Google“Adorable boutique hotel with great breakfast and a cute little rooftop bar!! Very friendly staff and welcome champagne! They have a very small gym, but if you ask at the Desk, there's free use of a huge amazing modern gym just around the corner. It's steps from the train station, which makes schlepping luggage easy, and we walked to EVERYTHING. Only complaint is that the shower is essentially the bathroom, so your partner can't really use the bathroom if you're showering, but other than that, a lovely experience!”
“While there are a few things I could point to for improvement, overall, this is a great hotel and we enjoyed our three night stay. Dogs: They're very welcoming of dogs, such a nice change of pace coming from Denmark where there is such an opposition to furry friends. The room had its own dog bed and they provided bowls and even some treats. Our dog was able to join us for breakfast on the roof patio each morning and for a drink in the ground floor bar. I think the only place she wasn't allowed was the main restaurant room. Rooms: Comfortable beds, lovely decor and clean. The shower is quite dated but it worked fine. It was quiet, no issues with neighbouring rooms and hallway noise like in many old hotels. The rooms were also too warm - we had brought mini fans so we were fine but just used the covers from the duvets - I can imagine during the heatwaves it could be bad. Service was kind and courteous though not always the most reactive or efficient. Breakfast was pretty good - my main complaint is it didn't change much day to day. If you're there more than three days the same eggs and pancakes will get old for sure. And we never say a server come to the table for coffee orders, so be sure to go up to the counter to order your espresso drinks if you want more than drip coffee. Location is great, the big issue was that there's no place to pull over and unload luggage. I suggest parking over at the Raddison Blu and bringing the luggage from there - it's a 2 minute walk. I think we'd stay here again on our next visit. Fully enjoyed.”
“I liked my stay at this hotelvduring a business trip, it is a historic one with very interesting room designs. Each room has its own design flavor and color. Yet, I wouldn't recommend this place for families, as the whole hotel is decorated with old artistic pictures that sometimes show nude people! Breakfast was amazing with homemade high quality items. People are super friendly and cooperative (especially Sarah, she was so nice and friendly). Highly recommend for adults.”
“A lovely quirky hotel in the center of Gothenburg. The decor was gorgeous and staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast was lovely and the rooftop bar is a lovely place to unwind and have a drink after a day of exploring all that is on your doorstep. I would definitely stay here again.”
“A fantastic quirky boutique hotel in the very centre of Gothenburg. V Moulin Rouge style with exceptional service. We had dinner here and rooftop drinks! Just wonderful”
