Hotel Imperial Vienna

5-Star Hotel
Hotel Imperial Vienna stands on the Kärntner Ring, part of the Ringstraße in the Innere Stadt, and the Musikverein concert hall, home of the Vienna Philharmonic's New Year's Concert, is directly behind it. The building, the former Palais Württemberg, was inaugurated by Emperor Franz Joseph in 1873, and it still carries the feel of the Austro-Hungarian era. Rooms and suites are decorated with antiques, silk-covered walls and historical details, with air conditioning, a sound system, a large TV and spacious marble bathrooms with bathrobes and slippers; suite guests have a personal butler service. Café Imperial serves Viennese coffee and pastries, including the Imperialtorte, and the Imperial Bar offers cocktails with live piano music. There are two restaurants, a 24-hour rooftop fitness centre with a sauna, room service, parking and an airport shuttle. The restored Festsaal and Marmorsaal host events, and the hotel has modern meeting rooms.

Tripplo's verdict, based on guest reviews

Tripplo’s analysis · Updated 17 October 2026 · How we review hotels

Hotel Imperial Vienna is a palace first and a hotel second. The former Palais Württemberg was inaugurated in 1873, and its rooms still have antiques, silk walls and marble bathrooms, so guests often say they feel like royalty. It stands on the Kärntner Ring with the Musikverein right behind it, and most of the main sights are within walking distance. Guests praise the staff above all, especially a concierge team that finds concert seats and plans celebrations in detail, and they enjoy the breakfast terrace, the Imperialtorte at Café Imperial and cocktails to piano music in the bar. The trade-offs are the bill and the facilities. It is an expensive stay, drinks included, and there is no spa or pool, only a rooftop gym with a sauna. A few guests also noted smaller niggles, from a suite that felt compact to a warm lobby in a heatwave. For a classic imperial stay, though, it delivers.

A palace hotel from 1873 on the Ringstraße, right in front of the Musikverein, with antique-filled rooms, marble bathrooms, butler service for suites and the Imperialtorte at Café Imperial. It suits travellers who want imperial grandeur and attentive service, less so anyone who wants a spa or pool or keeps a close eye on the bill.

Guests score it 9.3 out of 10 — the average across the 12 hotels we list in Vienna is 9.3.

  • Guests describe the staff as friendly, polished and exceptionally helpful. The concierge team gets particular praise, from securing good seats for performances to planning a birthday down to the last detail.
  • The building is a former palace, and guests feel it the moment they walk in. They speak of breathtaking interiors, antiques and silk walls, and rooms that blend historic charm with modern, well-lit comfort and large marble bathrooms.
