Tripplo's verdict, based on guest reviews
Tripplo’s analysis · Updated 17 October 2026 · How we review hotels
Anantara Palais Hansen Vienna is a five-star hotel for travellers who want a calm base with a proper spa. It occupies a historic landmark building on the Schottenring, on the quieter side of the Ringstraße, with St Stephen's Cathedral and the Hofburg a short walk away. Guests praise the staff above all, describing service that is warm and professional from reception to the spa, and many mention spacious, spotless rooms and an excellent breakfast. The 800 m² spa with its hydro pool and saunas, and a lobby known for apple strudel and Viennese pastries, give the hotel plenty to enjoy without going out. The drawbacks are small. The spa opens only at 10am, one guest had to keep asking for coffee capsules, and the main shopping streets are a walk rather than a step away. For a restful, polished stay within easy reach of the old town, guests leave very satisfied.
Guests score it 9.4 out of 10 — the average across the 12 hotels we list in Vienna is 9.3.
What Guests Loved
- Guests praise the staff at every turn, from guest relations and reception to the bar and the spa. They describe them as professional, polite and always willing to make an extra effort, and several were upgraded on arrival.
- The spa covers 800 m² with a hydro pool and several saunas, plus a fitness centre, and guests count the spa team among the friendly staff they single out.
Things to Consider
- The spa does not open until 10am, which one guest found to be the only downside of an otherwise excellent stay. Early risers who want a swim before sightseeing will need to adjust their plans.
- One guest had to call every day to ask for fresh mugs and coffee capsules, a small lapse that stood out against the otherwise attentive service.
