Tripplo's verdict, based on guest reviews
Tripplo’s analysis · Updated 1 October 2026 · How we review hotels
Don Carlos Marbella is a resort for guests who want the holiday to happen on site. It sits on Elviria Beach east of Marbella, with gardens, six pools, a beach club and a tennis club with seven clay courts. The refurbishment is recent and guests notice it, describing the interiors as beautiful and the grounds as immaculate. Staff draw the warmest praise, and families single out the kids' club and the heated main pool. The tennis club, where coaching follows the Rafa Nadal method, gives the resort a second pull beyond the sand, and in summer Nikki Beach runs its own programme by the water. The trade-off is the location. Central Marbella is a fifteen-minute drive, so evenings in town need a taxi, and the resort is busy enough that breakfast service can lag when it is full. WiFi and charging sockets are the other recurring complaints. For a beach holiday with everything in one place, though, the setting does most of the work.
Guests score it 9.0 out of 10 — the average across the 13 hotels we list in Marbella is 9.1.
What Guests Loved
- The resort opens straight onto the beach and has its own beach club, which guests mention alongside the pools as the reason the days pass without leaving the grounds.
- Twenty thousand square metres of gardens surround six pools, the main one heated with hammocks at no charge, and guests describe the grounds as beautifully kept.
Things to Consider
- Elviria is 11 km from central Marbella, so an evening in town means a taxi or the hotel shuttle, about fifteen minutes each way. Guests who want to walk out to bars and restaurants mention this most often.
- Breakfast is praised for its range, but several guests found it short-staffed at peak times and the service slower than they expected at this level.
Should you book it?
Don Carlos Marbella is worth booking for families who want a kids' club, pools and the beach in one place — but pick somewhere else if you want to walk into Marbella in the evening.

Reviews from Google“Exceptional good hotel in Marbella. I stayed several days with my family in February and we were so glad to have choosen this Hotel. The newly renovated rooms are really spacious, nice and offers all amentities expected for a 5* Hotel. The outdoor pool is heated and can be used at all seasons. The gym is one of the best Hotel gmy‘s I have seen (top notch quality and you can even do excercises outside). But the best gem is the staff! From the valet guys, reception, spa ladies to the waiters there are so nice, kind and attentive. Special thanks to Isaias, very friendly and proactive. He remembered our coffee preference after the day 1 and serviced us the following days directly without order - outstanding good. The beach can be reached via a walk through the beautiful Hotel garden and the old town of Marbella in approx. 9km. All in all, absolutely recommenable and we will come back.”
“We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Don Carlos Marbella and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The hotel is beautiful, the atmosphere is very relaxing, the service was excellent, and everything felt very well organized from start to finish. We especially enjoyed the pool and beach club areas, the spa, and the overall quality of the resort. A very special mention goes to Miruna from the reservations team, who was fantastic from our very first conversation. Her attention and support really added a personal touch to our stay. Highly recommended!”
“⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ What an incredible stay! From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, everything was absolutely perfect. The hotel is stunning, the gardens are beautiful, the views are amazing, and the pool area is so peaceful and relaxing. The service was exceptional. Every member of the staff made us feel genuinely welcome and always made sure everything was perfect. Our room was beautifully maintained every day, fresh towels were constantly replaced, and we loved all the little touches like the chocolates and thoughtful amenities. We also had dinner at Manero, which was absolutely delicious, and the spa was the perfect place to relax. Even when we checked out, the team surprised us with chilled bottles of water, refreshing towels and a lovely fragrance for the car. It’s these little details that make the difference and show how much they care about their guests. Thank you to the entire Don Carlos team for such a wonderful experience. We left with amazing memories and can’t wait to come back very soon!”
“This was truly one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at. I visited from July 1 to July 11, and every aspect of my stay exceeded my expectations. The hotel is beautifully maintained, exceptionally clean, and located in a fantastic area. The restaurants offered excellent food and outstanding service, making every meal a pleasure. Throughout my stay, every member of the staff was friendly, professional, and genuinely eager to help. I was also pleasantly surprised when the hotel upgraded my room to another room of the same category as a thoughtful gesture, which I greatly appreciated. Small touches like this reflect the hotel's commitment to guest satisfaction. Overall, this is a first-class hotel that excels in every way. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for exceptional service, comfort, and a memorable stay, and I look forward to returning in the future.”
“The hotel and most of the staff were amazing. We chose this hotel for a variety of reasons, mainly as it had beach facilities and a pool by the beach and this is where the hotel was let down. Supposedly they have franchised out all the beach areas and it is a mess and poorly staffed and it just doesn’t work. As an example, we get up early and like to head to the beach. Whether it be at the pool or the beach you can't use a bed or get any towels until 10:00. Some people might think that is acceptable, but I am up early and don’t want to be queuing first thing in the morning to get a bed ! We went to the pool side restaurant on the first day at around 13:00 and it was empty and we were told as a hotel guest, that unless we had a reservation, there were no tables available. We ended up getting food delivered to our beds which was fine, but we should have been allowed the choice. Whether we sat by the pool or the beach, the service was dreadful. It would take 3-5 attempts to get an order placed for simple things like a bottle of water. No one seemed to care and if complained, I was told they were not part of the hotel and speak to someone that cared. After the above I complained to a senior member of the staff which I never do and no response other than an apology at the time and when I left and paid my final bill I complained again and again no response. For an expensive FIVE star hotel, not very impressive and we won't be going there again!”
