Sands Suites Resort & Spa
Flic en Flac, Mauritius
Best overallSands Suites Resort & Spa is a good match for couples, and several guests came here on honeymoon… The resort sits on Flic en Flac Beach facing the lagoon at Tamarin Bay, and guests praise the beach, the friendly staff and the food, singling out a dinner buffet with a different theme each night. Water sports are free, there are two tennis courts and a spa, and guests mention plenty of included activities. One guest arriving from another resort on the island noted that Sands has a smaller, more personal feel. The complaints are minor. Wi-fi can drop out in some parts of the resort, one guest heard furniture being moved in the room above, and another found the bed quite hard. Flic en Flac itself is quieter than some expect, so this is a place to settle into rather than a base for nightlife. Couples who want an easy beach stay with good food and things to do will find it suits them well.
Why this position
Highest guest score of the 5 hotels we rank here: 9.5 from 925 reviews. Leads the ranking: a higher guest score than #2 (9.5 to 8.9).

Sugar Beach Mauritius
Flic en Flac, Mauritius
BeachSugar Beach Mauritius wins guests over with its setting and its people… The resort sits on the beach at Wolmar, Flic en Flac, with the Indian Ocean in front, and guests describe the grounds, the architecture and the cleanliness in glowing terms. The staff earn the most frequent praise, described again and again as superb and quick to help. Rooms facing the sea, the two pools, a quiet zone and the breakfast all get warm mentions, and the restaurants cover Mauritian, Italian and international cooking. The main caveat is cost. Meals and most extras are expensive if you are not on half or full board, and some guests note that nearly everything is charged separately. The restaurants can be crowded at busy times and have a dress code, and a few guests found the entertainment and the choice of excursions such as snorkelling trips limited. Couples who book a meal plan and want a polished beach resort will be well looked after.
Why this position
Sits behind #1 on both the score (8.9 to 9.5) and the sample it rests on (783 to 925 reviews).

Maradiva Villas Resort and Spa
Flic en Flac, Mauritius
Private poolMaradiva Villas Resort and Spa is built around privacy… Every one of its 64 villas has a temperature-controlled pool, and the resort spreads across 27 acres of gardens along 750 metres of beach at Wolmar. Guests praise the size and comfort of the villas, the sea views, the cleanliness and staff who are professional and quick to help, and several compare a walk through the grounds to a botanical garden. A full renovation was completed in November 2023. The food is where opinions split. Some guests find the restaurants underwhelming for the setting, with menus that rarely change and a breakfast that could offer more choice, and many extras are charged on top, which leaves a few feeling the stay is overpriced. Parts of the beach have sharp stones underfoot. Couples who plan to spend most of the day at their own pool and value space and quiet will be well served; anyone who wants varied dining every night may prefer to eat out.
Why this position
The same guest score as #2 (8.9), on a smaller body of reviews (209 to 783).

Hilton Mauritius Resort & Spa
Flic en Flac, Mauritius
Spa & wellnessHilton Mauritius Resort & Spa suits travellers who want a beach holiday with plenty of choice on site… It sits on the shore at Wolmar, about 4 km from Flic en Flac, and the rooms are a strong point: each is spacious, with a marble bathroom and a large terrace over the gardens or the Indian Ocean. Guests talk most about the friendly staff, the colour of the sea, the breakfast and the Thai restaurant, and those who like to keep busy praise the activities and water sports. According to guests, both pools are heated. The weaker points are mostly about food and drink. Drinks are charged separately even for guests with dinner included, some find the buffet less impressive than the à la carte restaurants, and vegetarians say the choice is narrow in some restaurants. Couples and active travellers who mainly want the beach, a good room and a sunset drink at the Vista Bar will be well looked after.
Why this position
Rests on more guest reviews than #3 (482 to 209), at a slightly lower score (8.7 to 8.9).

La Pirogue Mauritius
Flic en Flac, Mauritius
Affordable luxuryLa Pirogue Mauritius is for travellers who want the beach and the lagoon to set the pace… The resort sits on Flic en Flac Beach at Wolmar, in large tropical gardens, and guests describe the lagoon in front of the reef as the main draw, with plenty of water sports to try. The rooms are spacious, and several guests like the style of the accommodation, including the beach pavilions. Staff come up again and again as polite, attentive and welcoming, and the food is praised as fresh in every restaurant. There is no spa on site, but guests can use the one at the sister resort next door. The drawbacks are modest. Drinks feel expensive on half board, the walls between some rooms let sound through, and breakfast is a buffet with little alternative. One guest felt the resort suits a relaxed beach stay better than a honeymoon. Couples and active travellers looking for an easy-going base on the sand will find a lot to like.
Why this position
A lower star class than #4, but guests rate it higher (9.2 to 8.7).
