Constance Prince Maurice
Belle Mare, Mauritius
Best overallConstance Prince Maurice is for travellers who want peace and privacy on the east coast of Mauritius… Suites and villas look over the Indian Ocean from furnished terraces, some suites stand on stilts over the water, and the beaches are secluded. Guests write about the service more than anything else, describing hospitality that feels personal from check-in to check-out, and they praise the food in each of the restaurants, the cleanliness and the architecture. Le Barachois, a restaurant that floats on the water, is a favourite, and a spa, a games room and a library fill quiet hours. The calm has trade-offs. The resort is a hideaway at Poste de Flacq, so trips out need a taxi or a car, and evenings are quiet rather than lively. The villas are being renovated one at a time, and a guest placed in an older one noticed the difference. Couples and honeymooners who want a serene, well-run stay will be well looked after; anyone after nightlife should stay elsewhere.
Why this position
Highest guest score of the 10 hotels we rank here: 9.5 from 961 reviews. Leads the ranking: a higher guest score than #2 (9.5 to 9.2).

LUX* Belle Mare Resort & Villas
Belle Mare, Mauritius
BeachLUX* Belle Mare Resort & Villas is a beach resort at Belle Mare that guests remember for its atmosphere… Reviews mention the gardens, the architecture and the natural surroundings, and many guests stress how clean everything is. The staff are described as warm, friendly and well organised, from check-in onwards, and the food from the five restaurants earns steady praise, with the kitchen team singled out. A spa with a sauna, a steam room and a hot tub, two pools and a fitness centre fill the days, and family and interconnecting rooms make it workable for families too. The complaints are small. Room service can be slow, and at least one guest found the beach less striking than others on the island. Many rooms have balconies over the pool rather than the sea, so book a beach-view room if the view matters to you. Honeymooners and couples will find a sociable, well-kept resort; travellers who want total seclusion may prefer a smaller hideaway.
Why this position
Among the three highest guest scores of the 10 hotels we rank here: 9.2 from 1,872 reviews. Rests on more guest reviews than #1 (1,872 to 961), at a slightly lower score (9.2 to 9.5).

Shangri-La Le Touessrok
Belle Mare, Mauritius
GolfShangri-La Le Touessrok sits on Trou d'Eau Douce Bay, south of Belle Mare, and has been welcoming guests for more than 45 years… The resort has since been redesigned with a bright, colourful look and light, airy spaces. Guests write most about the beach, which one guest likens to paradise, and about rooms that look out over the ocean. The staff come across as friendly and welcoming, the grounds are green and well maintained, and there is a long list of activities, with access to golf for those who play. Breakfast is a highlight, and one guest singled out the food at Coco. Not every room has caught up with the new look: one guest found theirs visibly older, though clean and well equipped. Prices in the restaurants add up, and the address is Trou d'Eau Douce rather than Belle Mare itself. For a beach holiday with plenty to fill the days, it is a strong choice.
Why this position
Among the three highest guest scores of the 10 hotels we rank here: 9.2 from 687 reviews. The same guest score as #2 (9.2), on a smaller body of reviews (687 to 1,872).

One&Only Le Saint Géran
Belle Mare, Mauritius
Spa & wellnessOne&Only Le Saint Géran sits on the beach at Pointe de Flacq, on the east coast of Mauritius… Most guests start with the staff: review after review names them as the reason the stay worked, from the first welcome to small touches such as a late check-out. The food comes next, with warm words for breakfast and the Italian restaurant, and families mention the kids' club and the beach in the same breath. The grounds are green and well kept, and the spa and gym get good marks. The price is the obvious hurdle, and one guest found parts of the resort dated rather than modern. A few would like more restaurants to choose from, and one guest was disappointed by the Japanese restaurant. For couples on honeymoon and families who put service above everything else, the resort delivers; travellers watching the budget should look at simpler hotels along the same coast.
Why this position
Among the three highest guest scores of the 10 hotels we rank here: 9.2 from 370 reviews. The same guest score as #3 (9.2), on a smaller body of reviews (370 to 687).

Seasense Boutique Hotel & Spa
Belle Mare, Mauritius
Adults onlySeasense Boutique Hotel & Spa is an adults-only hotel on the coastal road at Belle Mare, small enough that guests describe it as intimate… What they write about most is the service: staff who go out of their way from arrival to departure, meals adjusted to personal tastes and a manager who looks after guests in person. The rooms are clean and large, each with a private terrace, and the gardens are well cared for. Guests also like the heated infinity pool and the eco touches, such as drinking water in sealed glass bottles. The sea is the weaker point. One guest found the water in front weedy and not clear enough for good swimming, and another wished the hotel had more ocean frontage. One room smelled musty when the air conditioning was off. For couples who care more about service and calm than about a long stretch of beach, it fits well, and the small size is exactly what most guests come for.
Why this position
Rests on more guest reviews than #4 (1,186 to 370), at a slightly lower score (9.1 to 9.2).

La Maison d'Eté Hotel by NEWMARK
Belle Mare, Mauritius
Peace and quietLa Maison d'Eté Hotel by NEWMARK is a small hotel for travellers who want quiet more than entertainment… It sits on the Coastal Road at Poste Lafayette, north of Belle Mare, right on a beach that guests describe as calm and unspoilt, with landscaped gardens and few other people around. Several reviews call it a boutique hotel, and the staff are the reason given most often: friendly, courteous and willing to go out of their way. The food, with French, local and international dishes, gets consistent praise, and the rooms are comfortable, each with a balcony or terrace over the pool. The setting has two sides. This part of the coast can be windy and cool, and the sea is sometimes rough. The hotel is a fair drive from the towns, and guests staying a week or longer find the menu limited. Couples looking for a peaceful, personal beach stay will like it; those who want plenty of dining choice or a town close by should look elsewhere.
Why this position
The same guest score as #5 (9.1), on a smaller body of reviews (618 to 1,186).

C Mauritius Palmar
Belle Mare, Mauritius
C Mauritius Palmar sits on the Coastal Road at Palmar, right on the beach along the Belle Mare coast… Guests call it cosy and welcoming, and their comments keep returning to the staff, who are described as friendly and attentive, with the beach team singled out. The food gets warm praise too, along with a good selection of wine, and the rooms are called comfortable and clean. Three pools, a spa with a sauna, a fitness centre, a tennis court and yoga classes fill the days, and the kitchens cater for halal, vegetarian and vegan diets. The setting has its limits. There is no village or promenade to stroll to after dinner, so evenings are spent at the resort. Some guests found that orders were slow to arrive at busy times, and those staying a week or more would like more variety at dinner. Couples and honeymooners who want an easy beach holiday will feel at home; travellers who want restaurants and nightlife on the doorstep should look elsewhere.
Why this position
Rests on more guest reviews than #6 (2,128 to 618), at a slightly lower score (9.0 to 9.1).

SALT of Palmar
Belle Mare, Mauritius
ViewsSALT of Palmar is a small adults-only hotel on the beach at Palmar, 1.7 km from Belle Mare, and part of the Design Hotels group… Guests describe it as human in scale, with design details to notice around the building and views over the water from the rooms. The staff get the most praise: friendly, attentive and quick to set up activities the way you want them. The kitchen focuses on homemade dishes, and reviews call the food high in quality, with a good breakfast; one guest recommends booking full board or all-inclusive. The spa also draws warm comments. Reviews contain almost no complaints, so the trade-offs come from the format. Children are not accepted, the hotel is too small to match the range of restaurants and facilities at the large resorts on this coast, and Belle Mare itself is a short ride away. For couples who want a quiet, personal stay by the sea, that balance suits well.
Why this position
The same guest score as #7 (9.0), on a smaller body of reviews (784 to 2,128).

The Residence Mauritius
Belle Mare, Mauritius
The Residence Mauritius is a large resort on the beach at Belle Mare, and its size works in its favour: guests mention several restaurants, plenty of space to spread out and water activities right at the edge of the sand… The staff are the most praised part of the stay, friendly and helpful with a smile, and butler service is available for every room. Breakfast is a buffet that guests rate highly, and the rooms win praise for their views over the gardens, the ocean or the lagoon. Dinner is the weak spot. In the casual restaurant it is always a buffet, and some guests found the themed evenings short on variety. The pools are not heated, which makes them bracing in July, and the volcanic stone paths around the grounds are uneven underfoot. For couples who want a relaxed, well-staffed beach stay and do not mind buffet evenings, it fits well.
Why this position
The same guest score as #8 (9.0), on a smaller body of reviews (555 to 784).

Constance Belle Mare Plage
Belle Mare, Mauritius
Constance Belle Mare Plage is a large beach resort for guests who want plenty of choice without leaving the grounds… It runs along 2 km of private beach at Pointe de Flacq, with a coral reef offshore, and its 7 restaurants and 6 bars mean dinner can change every night. Guests praise the beach, the gardens and the quality of the food, and several mention staff members by name for their kindness. The spa treatments get warm comments, and the two-bedroom private villas are singled out by those who stayed in one. Size is the trade-off. The grounds are spacious, so getting from the room to the beach or a restaurant can take a few minutes on foot, and the mood is that of a big resort rather than a small hideaway. Some of the older villas look a little worn. Couples and groups who like variety and a long beach will be well served; travellers after something small and quiet may prefer a smaller hotel.
Why this position
The largest body of guest feedback on this page: 3,198 reviews, averaging 8.8. Rests on more guest reviews than #9 (3,198 to 555), at a slightly lower score (8.8 to 9.0).
