Tripplo's verdict, based on guest reviews
Tripplo’s analysis · Updated 14 October 2026 · How we review hotels
One Aldwych is for travellers who want to step straight out into the theatres, bars and sights of central London. It stands where Covent Garden meets the Strand, with Trafalgar Square a short walk away, and as an independent hotel it puts a lot of care into the welcome. Guests speak most warmly about the staff, who are described as friendly, efficient and genuinely kind, and about stylish, spotless rooms with very comfortable beds. The Lobby Bar, with its cocktails and complimentary snacks, and the spa with an indoor pool add to the appeal. The weaker points are mostly about money. Some guests were unhappy to find a discretionary service charge added to the bill, breakfast costs extra on some rates and feels overpriced to a few, and the bar is expensive. One room was also not dark enough at night. For a lively, central stay with very attentive service, it delivers; anyone wanting an all-included price should read the rate carefully.
Guests score it 9.5 out of 10 — the average across the 31 hotels we list in London is 9.3.
What Guests Loved
- The hotel sits where Covent Garden meets the Strand, so theatres, bars, restaurants and sights such as Trafalgar Square are within easy walking distance. Location is the hotel's highest-rated feature, and guests call it ideal for exploring London.
- Staff are praised in nearly every review for being friendly, efficient and genuinely caring, going above and beyond for special occasions and for guests with reduced mobility. Several guests call it their favourite hotel in London because of the welcome.
Things to Consider
- Several guests noticed a discretionary service charge added to the room bill and did not like that it was not made clearer. You can ask for it to be removed.
- Value for money is the lowest-rated area. Breakfast is not included in every rate and some guests found it overpriced for what it is, and bar prices are high, though guests accept that this is common in central London.
Should you book it?
One Aldwych is worth booking for theatregoers who want the West End on foot — but pick somewhere else if you want breakfast and every extra included in the price.
