Hotel & Villa Auersperg is for travellers who want a stylish, calm base within walking distance of everything. Run by the same family for three generations, it occupies two buildings on a quiet street near Mirabell Gardens, with the old town and the station a short walk away. Guests are won over by the interior design, the city garden with its terrace and the Petit City Spa with sauna and steam bath. Breakfast, largely organic and homemade, is a highlight, and the staff are praised for service that is warm without being intrusive. The weaker points are space and evenings. Some rooms are small, and the bar and dinner do not quite match the rest of the stay, with a limited bar menu and occasional slow service in the afternoon and evening.
