Tripplo's verdict, based on guest reviews
By Axel Hernborg · Updated 23 August 2026 · How we review hotels
Hotel Le Negresco is ideal for travellers seeking a historic beachfront presence on the Promenade des Anglais. Backed by a Booking.com score of 9.7 across 1,428 reviews and a Google rating of 4.6 from 6,629 reviews, this landmark features individualized period decor in every room alongside an extensive collection of historical French art and Michelin-starred dining at Le Chantecler. A notable drawback is that the ornate aesthetic may feel dated to some visitors. Additionally, guests face extra fees for private beach access.
Guests score it 9.7 out of 10 — the average across the 8 hotels we list in Nice is 9.3.
The 30-second verdict
What Guests Loved
- Situated directly on the iconic Promenade des Anglais, the hotel offers immediate access to the Mediterranean shore and panoramic views of the Baie des Anges from many suites.
- Each guest room is distinct, furnished with authentic period pieces ranging from Louis XIII to modern art, creating an atmosphere of a living museum rather than a standard hotel.
Things to Consider
- The heavily stylized, historic interiors prioritize heritage over contemporary minimalism, which might not appeal to travelers who prefer modern, streamlined architectural designs.
- While the hotel occupies a prime beachfront position, access to the private beach club and specific transportation services like the limousine shuttle require a supplemental fee.

Reviews from Google“vibrant luxury hotel atmosphere, especially in the evening. The hotel itself is absolutely stunning, elegant, historic, and full of character. The service was professional, and the cocktails were excellent. However, I was disappointed by the atmosphere at N Les Bars. Live music finished at around 11:00 pm, and from then until midnight the bar became almost silent. The music was barely audible, despite the large, beautiful lounge being open until midnight. It felt surprisingly empty and lacked the lively ambiance you would expect from such a legendary five-star hotel on any August summer night. I think keeping live music on a little longer, or at least playing background music at a more noticeable volume, would make the experience much more enjoyable. The setting deserves an atmosphere that matches its elegance. Beautiful hotel, but the evening bar experience could be much more memorable.”
“We absolutely loved staying here. Everything was wonderful. The building and rooms are beautiful. The location is great. Every person was helpful, cheerful and welcoming. The breakfasts in La Rotonde were absolutely outstanding. We were in Nice for a 40th wedding anniversary trip and this hotel met the expectations that accompany such an occasion. We would love to stay here again. I wish we could give more than five stars.”
“The hotel is gorgeous. Our suite was gorgeous with stunning views and windows trimmed in gold that open. The breakfast area outside oversees the sea. They have fresh juices (detox juice my favorite) and will make you one if the one you want isn’t available. Same with eggs, they will customize your meal. They have gluten free option for those with celiac. They have it all: bars, a boutique with fabulous items, beach club with showers and changing rooms. They are missing nothing. The service is amazing. I’ve been lots of places across Europe and this ties for first place for me.”
“We stayed here for our honeymoon and a few things were disappointing. To preface, the hotel itself is beautiful, in a great central location and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. Also, the bar restaurant food was excellent. That said, we were disappointed with the room for the price. It was quite small and the view from the window felt like “prison bars.” We also found the air conditioning lacking—it didn’t cool enough and only reached a limited temperature. The bathroom was by far the most unsatisfactory part. The shower was elevated and there were no shower doors, so the layout is basically an exposed raised structure that you have to step up into and then back down. Water easily gets all over the floor. Since I was pregnant, I genuinely worried about my safety every time I showered. Finally, there were no outlets in the bathroom and the toilet was problematic throughout our entire stay. I want to point out an outstanding positive which was housekeeping. They were extraordinary and probably the best part of our stay here. Overall, it wasn’t the worst experience but we likely would not return due to these conditions.”
“The Good: The hotel is lovely, more like a museum. The staff were very polite and helpful. The reception the concierge the wait staff all great. The rooms were comfortable and most importantly had airconditioning. I would come back. The Bad: My room sprang a leak from the towel warmer, just a wet floor and it was resolved very quickly. The Ugly: Housekeeping was fine but then fell apart on the last day. They forgot to clean my room and make my bed. I was very disappointed, and told the front desk. When you pay top dollar for a hotel you expect top dollar service. So I may be splitting hairs but I was disappointed. I love to come back to a clean and tidy room after going out in the morning. Hence my low score.”
