GRAND ELYSEE Hamburg is a big, full-service five-star hotel for travellers who want everything under one roof. It stands in Rotherbaum, 400 metres from Dammtor station and within a short walk of the Alster, and guests praise the location, the friendly and professional staff, and rooms that are spacious, comfortable and kept spotless. The 1,000 m² spa, with an indoor pool, saunas and a hot tub, is what sets it apart, and three restaurants, a café and several bars, one with live jazz, mean you rarely need to go out to eat. The weak spot is value. Prices are high, and guests notice when the details slip: a breakfast buffet some find short on healthier options, coffee that has to be ordered at busy times, and a front desk that can be slow or a little abrupt. If a central, well-connected base with a proper spa is what you need, it delivers; if you are counting every euro, Hamburg has more modest options.
