Brenners Park Hotel & Spa is a classic grand hotel for travellers who come to Baden-Baden to slow down. The historic house stands in leafy grounds by a park, about ten minutes on foot from the Kurhaus, and its antique-furnished rooms, marble bathrooms and evening piano music in the Kaminhalle set an unhurried tone. Guests speak most warmly about the staff, who are attentive without being intrusive, about the spa with its pools, saunas and massages, and about a breakfast many single out. The trade-offs are the price and, at times, the building itself. A stay here is expensive, some guests arrived during renovation work that closed facilities and made the entrance hard to find, and the large, traditional layout will not suit everyone. For a calm, well-looked-after spa break at the edge of the Black Forest, it is an assured choice; for a modern, low-key city hotel, look elsewhere.
