Radisson Collection Hotel, Tallinn is for travellers who want the comfort and facilities of a large five-star hotel with the Old Town a few minutes away… It rises above the modern city centre, and guests are most enthusiastic about the views from the higher floors, the spa with its indoor pool, a gym that outclasses most hotel gyms and a generous breakfast. Staff are described as warm and helpful, and the rooms as spotless with very comfortable beds. The compromises are modest, however. You sleep outside the medieval walls, so the Old Town is a short walk rather than the view from your door. A few guests ran into saunas that were not working as listed, small extra charges or a bathroom that felt dated. Travellers who value a pool, a proper gym and a room with a view will find it a reliable base; anyone who wants an intimate house among the cobbles should look inside the walls.
Why this position
Among the three highest guest scores of the 8 hotels we rank here — 9.4 from 6,054 reviews. Leads the ranking: the same guest score as #2, on a larger body of reviews (6,054 to 959).
Schlössle Hotel is for travellers who want to sleep inside Tallinn's medieval story rather than look at it… The hotel fills buildings from the 13th and 14th centuries a short walk from Town Hall Square, and guests describe the atmosphere as charming and quite unlike a standard city hotel. They speak warmly about the staff, the breakfast with its glass of sparkling wine, the antique-furnished rooms and beds that are hard to leave, and the sauna is included in the stay. The old walls come with practical limits, however. There is no lift and the stairs are steep and narrow, cars cannot pull up at the door, and at busy times the restaurant and bar can feel short-staffed. Couples on a city break who are happy to carry a bag up a few flights will find an atmospheric, well-run base; anyone who needs step-free access should look elsewhere.
Why this position
Among the three highest guest scores of the 8 hotels we rank here — 9.4 from 959 reviews. The same guest score as #1 (9.4), on a smaller body of reviews (959 to 6,054).
The Burman Hotel is a small five-star house for travellers who want Tallinn's Old Town on the doorstep without the noise… It sits on Rataskaevu, a quiet street a couple of minutes from Town Hall Square, and guests speak most warmly about the service: a team that guests mention by name, that handles late arrivals graciously and makes the stay feel personal. The champagne breakfast, the spotless rooms and the care that has gone into the interiors come up again and again. The trade-offs are about scale and price. The smaller rooms work well for one but feel tight for two, and value for money is where guests are least enthusiastic. The rooms are highly digital, which suits some guests and not others. Couples and solo travellers who plan to explore on foot and want a polished, intimate base will find it fits well; anyone after a spacious room or a resort-scale spa should look further.
Why this position
Highest guest score of the 8 hotels we rank here — 9.7 from 125 reviews. Scores higher than #2 (9.7 to 9.4), on a smaller body of reviews (125 to 959).
Movenpick Hotel Tallinn suits travellers who want a calm, comfortable base with a proper spa to return to after a day in the city… It stands by Lembitu Park, close to the centre yet quiet, and the Old Town is within walking distance. Guests are most enthusiastic about the spa, with its pool, Japanese pool, cold plunge and saunas all included, and about breakfast on the top floor with views over Tallinn. Recently renovated rooms with good beds, a few with balconies, and a friendly team round out a stay that guests describe as relaxing and well run. The trade-off is distance from the medieval streets. Guests put the heart of the Old Town at about a quarter of an hour on foot, with little to see right around the hotel. The dinner menu is limited, some doubles are two beds pushed together and parking costs extra. For a spa-focused city break, it delivers; if you want to wake up inside the old walls, choose a hotel there.
Why this position
Rests on more guest reviews than #3 (3,602 to 125), at a slightly lower score (9.2 to 9.7).
Hotel Regent Tallinn is a good fit for travellers who want the Old Town on their doorstep and a hotel with some history in its walls… It occupies a carefully restored building on Pikk, so the Town Hall Square, the medieval lanes and the harbour are all within walking distance. Guests speak most warmly about the staff, who are described as genuinely keen to make each stay a success, and about clean, comfortable rooms with real character. After a day on the cobbles, the underground spa with its pool and sauna is a welcome retreat. The building also sets the limits. The pool is small, there is no shared lounge, and the rooms under the roof are tighter, with sloping walls. Some rooms rely on a single ceiling light, and breakfast is served à la carte rather than as a buffet. For a city break built around walking and personal service, it delivers; for long lazy days by a pool, look elsewhere.
Why this position
The same guest score as #4 (9.2), on a smaller body of reviews (498 to 3,602).
Hotel Telegraaf is for travellers who want a full-service hotel right in the Old Town, with a pool to come back to… It stands in an 1878 building a block from Town Hall Square, and guests are most enthusiastic about the location, the spa with its indoor pool, sauna and steam bath, the breakfast and the comfortable, generously sized rooms. The bar and the calm public spaces add to the sense of a getaway, even for guests who live in Tallinn. The weaker points are about consistency. Some guests found their first room dusty or unlike the photos before being moved, and several felt the service did not always match the five-star setting. Rooms on the street side can be noisy at night, and the spa is on the small side, with no gym. Couples and winter visitors who want comfort and a pool steps from the main square will be well looked after; light sleepers should ask for a quiet room.
Why this position
Rests on more guest reviews than #5 (773 to 498), at a slightly lower score (9.1 to 9.2).
Swissotel Tallinn suits travellers who want comfort and a view… It is located in the city's tallest building, so most rooms look out over the Old Town, the harbour or the Gulf of Finland, and guests keep returning to that panorama in their reviews. Rooms are spacious with large bathrooms and good beds, breakfast is praised for its freshness and variety, and the team is described as friendly and professional. A spa with a decent pool and saunas, plus the Horisont bar on the top floor, round out the stay. The trade-off is character. Several guests describe it as a polished business hotel without much atmosphere, and the surrounding streets offer little, with the Old Town a walk of up to a quarter of an hour. The saunas can be busy, and parking is expensive. For a comfortable, efficient base with sweeping views, it works well; for medieval charm, stay inside the walls.
Why this position
Rests on more guest reviews than #6 (3,560 to 773), at a slightly lower score (8.9 to 9.1).
Nunne Boutique Hotel is a good choice for travellers who want to stay inside Tallinn's history without the noise of the busiest lanes… It is set into the medieval city wall on Nunne, at the quieter edge of the Old Town, yet the Town Hall Square is only about 300 metres away and the Telliskivi district a short walk in the other direction. Guests return again and again to the same points: a beautiful building where old stone meets modern design, a friendly and helpful team, spotless rooms with excellent beds and a varied breakfast. The main compromise is space. Several guests found their room small, though most spent their days out in the city anyway. Breakfast impresses most guests but not everyone, and one guest found that the spa had to be booked separately. For a characterful, well-run base on a city break, it works very well; for a long stay with plenty of time in the room, a larger room or another hotel makes more sense.
Why this position
Among the three highest guest scores of the 8 hotels we rank here — 9.4 from 1,772 reviews. Scores higher than #7 (9.4 to 8.9), on a smaller body of reviews (1,772 to 3,560).
