In short: We checked more than seventy hotels on Tenerife. Eight are adults-only by their own websites, with a minimum age of 16 or an outright adults-only policy: five on Costa Adeje, one on the golf course at Playa de las Américas and two in the greener north, at Puerto de la Cruz and Buenavista del Norte.
Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands, has adults-only hotels on both sides of Mount Teide.
Most sit on the sunny south-west coast around Costa Adeje, from beachfront hotels at Playa del Duque and La Caleta to boutique addresses near Fañabé and a golf hotel above Playa de las Américas. The greener north adds a garden resort above Puerto de la Cruz and a secluded golf hotel near Teno.

1JOIA El Mirador by Iberostar
Tenerife, Spain
Service & staff: 46 of 49 mentions positive · Food & restaurants: 27 of 34 mentions positive
Why this rank: An all-suite hotel just off Playa del Duque, now run as JOIA El Mirador by Iberostar, which its own site presents as a five-star hotel for adults; children are not accepted. Guests praise the calm, the direct beach access and the Andalusian-style buildings around a heated freshwater pool, and the spa covers more than 1,000 m². Dining is, however, pricey.
21881 Tenerife Madrigueras Golf Hotel
Tenerife, Spain
Service & staff: 22 of 26 mentions positive · Food & restaurants: 21 of 29 mentions positive
Why this rank: In its own words an exclusive adults-only hotel, with 57 rooms on the Golf Las Américas course above Playa de las Américas; children are not accepted. Guests praise the peace, the attentive staff and breakfast cooked to order, and golfers walk straight onto the fairways with a buggy included. The spa is small, and dinner tables can be hard to get.
3Royal Hideaway Corales Beach
Tenerife, Spain
Food & restaurants: 27 of 41 mentions positive · Service & staff: 27 of 41 mentions positive
Why this rank: A grand luxury hotel on the seafront at Playa La Enramada in La Caleta, which Barceló's Royal Hideaway brand presents as an exclusive adults-only environment for guests aged 16 and over. Guests praise the striking architecture, the ocean views, the spacious rooms and the food across several restaurants, and there are three heated saltwater pools and an Ayurveda-inspired spa. Value for money draws criticism.
4Hacienda del Conde Meliá Collection
Tenerife, Spain
Service & staff: 31 of 43 mentions positive · Food & restaurants: 26 of 45 mentions positive
Why this rank: A Small Luxury Hotels of the World member at Buenavista del Norte that its own site calls a five-star Adults Only hotel for guests aged 16 and over. It looks out over the ocean, the Teno mountains and the 18-hole golf course, with infinity pools and the ALQVIMIA spa. Guests praise the warm staff, the spacious sea-view rooms and the breakfast. It is remote, so plan on a car.
5Adrián Hoteles Colón Guanahaní - Adults Only
Tenerife, Spain
Service & staff: 44 of 49 mentions positive · Food & restaurants: 26 of 41 mentions positive
Why this rank: A small, colonial-style four-star boutique hotel on Costa Adeje that its own FAQ describes as exclusively for adults aged 16 and over. Heated pools sit in quiet gardens, and the rooftop pool with a jacuzzi is a favourite. Guests praise the warm staff and the breakfast, and Playa de Fañabé is a short walk away. Rooms are not the largest.
6Iberostar Selection Sábila
Tenerife, Spain
Service & staff: 31 of 36 mentions positive · Food & restaurants: 29 of 33 mentions positive
Why this rank: Iberostar describes Sábila as a hotel designed specially for adults, and guests must be 16 or over. It sits in large gardens near Playa de Fañabé, about ten minutes' walk from Puerto Colón, with an aloe-vera spa, Star Prestige pools and a rooftop for superior rooms. Guests praise the friendly staff, the breakfast and sunbeds booked by app. The pools are too shallow for proper swimming.
7Radisson Resort & Residences Tenerife
Tenerife, Spain
Condition & cleanliness: 26 of 30 mentions positive · Service & staff: 23 of 35 mentions positive
Why this rank: An adults-only resort for guests aged 16 and over, as its own site makes clear, on the hillside above Puerto de la Cruz. Guests praise the lush gardens, the new and spotless rooms, a heated pool with service at the sunbeds and views of Mount Teide, and the Laurisilva Wellness Center adds treatments. There is no on-site parking, and the walk up from town is steep.
8Meliá Jardines del Teide - Adults Only
Tenerife, Spain
Service & staff: 39 of 54 mentions positive · Location: 20 of 27 mentions positive
Why this rank: Meliá presents this hillside hotel above the Golden Mile as Adults Only for guests aged 16 and over. It is built around 12,000 m² of tropical gardens with views of the coast and Mount Teide, and The Level adds a private lounge and its own pool. Guests praise the staff, the breakfast and the spacious rooms. Expect plenty of steps; a shuttle runs to Playa del Duque.

How we chose and ordered the hotels
We checked more than seventy hotels, villa complexes and aparthotels on Tenerife, from Costa Adeje and Playa de las Américas in the south-west to Puerto de la Cruz, Garachico and Buenavista del Norte in the north. The eight that made the list are ordered by guest score. The order therefore tells you how satisfied guests have been, not which setting suits you best, so read the area guide below before you choose.
Each hotel had to state on its own website that it is adults-only. We used booking sites only to find the minimum age where the hotel's own pages did not give one. To qualify, a hotel had to accept guests from 16 at the youngest or have an explicit adults-only policy for the whole hotel. Hotels that only set an age limit of 12, 13 or 14, and adults-only zones inside family hotels, do not count.
Where to stay on Tenerife
Costa Adeje in the sunny south-west has five of the hotels. Grand El Mirador sits just off Playa del Duque, and Meliá Jardines del Teide climbs the hillside of Mirador del Duque above the Golden Mile, with a shuttle down to the same beach. Adrián Hoteles Colón Guanahaní and Iberostar Selection Sábila are a short walk from Playa de Fañabé, and Sábila is about ten minutes on foot from the restaurants and bars of Puerto Colón. Royal Hideaway Corales Beach stands on the seafront at Playa La Enramada in La Caleta. Tenerife South Airport is roughly a 20-minute drive from this stretch.
Playa de las Américas, right next to Costa Adeje, has 1881 Tenerife Madrigueras, set on the Golf Las Américas course with views to the Atlantic and La Gomera. The beach is within walking distance, but restaurants and shops are not right outside the door.
Puerto de la Cruz on the north coast is greener and less sun-baked than the south, with lush gardens and views up to Mount Teide. Radisson Resort & Residences sits on the hillside above the town, about 24 km from Tenerife North Airport. The walk back up from the seafront is, however, steep.
Buenavista del Norte, on the north-west tip of the island near the Teno massif, has Hacienda del Conde beside the Buenavista golf course, between the mountains and the sea. It is the most secluded setting on the list: Los Gigantes is 36 km away, Tenerife North Airport 58 km, and a car is almost essential.
Hotels we reviewed but left out
- Royal River, Luxury Hotel and Hotel San Roque in Garachico — both adults-only, but they accept guests from 14.
- RedLevel at Gran Meliá Palacio de Isora — an adults-only level inside a family resort, and below our guest-score floor.
- Barceló Tenerife Royal Level — an adults area inside a family hotel.
- Royal Hideaway Corales Suites — the family sister of Corales Beach, with a kids' club and a teens' club.
- JOIA Salomé by Iberostar and The Salmar — sold as adults-only, but with too few guest reviews yet for us to judge them.
- Bahía del Duque and The Ritz-Carlton Tenerife, Abama — calm luxury resorts, but family hotels with kids' clubs.
- Hotel Botánico y The Oriental Spa Garden in Puerto de la Cruz — a family hotel with family rooms and child prices.
- Sir Anthony — its own site says plainly that it welcomes babies and children.
A pattern worth knowing: on Tenerife, several hotels sold as adults-only set the limit at 14, and some of the big Costa Adeje resorts keep an adults-only level inside a family hotel. We only list hotels where the whole hotel is for adults and that say so themselves.
