Tripplo's verdict, based on guest reviews
Tripplo’s analysis · Updated 29 September 2026 · How we review hotels
Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam is a premier choice for travellers seeking elegant historic design and pool facilities in a single property. Earning outstanding guest reviews across Booking.com and Google, it houses a prestigious Guerlain spa and indoor pool along the Herengracht canal. However, guests must expect a high premium on room rates.
Guests score it 9.5 out of 10 — the average across the 13 hotels we list in Amsterdam is 9.0.
What Guests Loved
- The hotel is housed within six interconnected 17th-century palaces, offering guests a rare chance to experience original architectural features, grand staircases, and historic painted ceilings along the Herengracht.
- The sophisticated Guerlain Spa features direct access to a heated indoor pool and three private treatment rooms, providing a serene sanctuary after a day of exploring Amsterdam.
Things to Consider
- As one of Amsterdam's most prestigious addresses, room rates and dining prices are exceptionally high, which may not suit travelers seeking a moderate budget.
- Onsite parking is limited and relatively expensive, though the central location and excellent public transport links make a car unnecessary for most visitors.
Should you book it?
Book it if you want
- Travellers wanting design and pools in one place
- Travellers who notice architecture and interiors
- Guests who plan the day around the pool
