After a poor hotel experience at another big chain on this trip, staying at Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam was a reminder of what true hospitality should feel like. From the moment we arrived, welcome bubbles set the tone though the upgrade we selected took over an hour to prepare, they settled us in with another drink and we waited at the lobby. A special thank you to Caitlin from the butler team, who consistently went above and beyond throughout our stay. Nothing seemed too much trouble. Our daughter absolutely loved returning to a beautifully prepared room and the baths thoughtfully drawn for her after long days of sightseeing. Even a simple request to receive an Uber Eats delivery after we were exhausted from holiday dining was handled without the slightest raised eyebrow. She’s warm and personable, a hospitality natural. Also deserving of praise was Niels at Concierge. On a casual mention while we were heading out one morning that we would love to dine at Ottolenghi, he somehow managed to secure a reservation that seemed impossible to obtain. On the same day, within 3 hours! It was one of those moments that reminded us what a great concierge does: they make things happen, often as if by magic. The hotel itself is beautiful, comfortable and perfectly located, but what truly stood out was the people. Warm, professional and genuinely caring service made us feel like valued guests rather than room numbers. Suite was well proportioned though no sound system was a surprise. Also, maintenance could be improved - set for 2 when there were 3 of us, dusty corners, malfunctioning bathtub (which the capable Caitlin sorted), shower stopper not replaced, shower door that constantly left a wet floor etc but otherwise lovely stay. A wonderful stay and a hotel we would happily return to.

Excellent service, larger rooms compared to similar level hotels in Amsterdam, great location just on the edge of the busier areas with great accessibility to all the attractions the city has to offer. Of note, rooms and property are historic and may feel a bit dated, but we found the positives to outweigh this negative. We normally do not use concierge services, preferring to explore on our own and make our own arrangements, but this time we encountered a number of occasions where assistance from the concierge was greatly appreciated. For the quality of concierge services alone, I would give 5+ stars.

We had a quick stay in Amsterdam and found this hotel through our All Aacor membership. We are so grateful we did! The hotel was absolutely beautiful and the staff were so friendly. We had a beautiful junior suite which was quite large and nicely appropriated. The location was very central but if you need a quiet neighborhood, please be aware this is near/adjacent to the "Red Light" District so you will be walking through some louder streets at times to get to the hotel. However, the hotel itself and the street it's on is quiet. I will absolutely return here when I come back to Amsterdam. It was just lovely. Thank you Sofitel Amsterdam!

It started at check-in: not a single member of staff helped with the luggage, and a woman was left dragging heavy suitcases through the hotel alone. That set the tone for everything that followed. Our suite’s bathroom reeked of sewage and faeces. Yes, in a so-called luxury hotel. We complained repeatedly, and the staff simply could not be bothered to fix it. We spent our entire stay breathing in that stench because management chose to ignore us. The bathtub was filthy on arrival - covered in dried dirt and full of someone else’s hair. It clearly had not been cleaned after the previous guest. This is not a minor slip; it is a basic hygiene failure. The service was just as incompetent. Room service repeatedly delivered the wrong orders. We were charged for water the hotel is supposed to provide free of charge - water they kept “forgetting” to deliver, yet somehow never forgot to bill. This is not a five-star hotel. It is a poorly run property hiding behind a rating it does not deserve. We are deeply disappointed and will not be returning. Save your money and book elsewhere.

Having never been to Amsterdam before, the hotel was ideally placed for us to be able to get around. The accommodation provided by the hotel was superb, have never stayed in anywhere like it. You could not ask for better staff from the time you were greeted at the entrance, then reception and by everyone else you were served by. The quality, details and attention to the appearance of everything in the hotel is marvellous. The food in the restaurant is gorgeous but more selection in the evening menu would be nice. You cannot fault the breakfast one bit, selection is so vast. We would certainly stay there again.
